Diamond Cut

If you have been looking around for a diamond, chances are you have heard of the term “diamond cut”.

Diamond cut is a term used to describe the making of the diamond.  The making combines a number of operations such as cleaving and polishing, which results in the shape of the diamond.  There exist different styles of diamond cut, such as step cut, brilliant cut, mixed cut and rose cut.

The quality of the cut is determined by grading the proportions, polish and symmetry.  These are the most important elements of brilliancy (brightness of light reflected through to the top of the diamond), dispersion (the result of white light dividing into all the colours of the rainbow) and scintillation (sparkle).
