Diamond Grading | Certified Diamonds For Sale
As you know, buying a diamond is a significant purchase compared to other consumer purchases you make every day. That is why it is important to do business with a certified diamond dealer, who will provide you with a Grading Report, complete with all of the relevant diamond grading information you need.
Diamond grading helps to protect you from misrepresentation, and that is why credible and legitimate diamond retailers will often sell diamonds with an accompanying Grading Report. A Grading Report is otherwise known as a Diamond Certificate.
Such a report provides you with the diamond grading information, such as details relating to weight, colour, clarity, proportions, cut style, shape and treatments (if any).
Here at Claes Diamonds, we always recommend you only buy diamonds that come with a Grading Report – and we always provide a Grading Report with all the relevant diamond grading information you need, unless specifically agreed otherwise.
Diamond Reports are different to valuations.
As important as a Grading Report is, it is important to note that not all laboratories compiling diamond grading information are created equal.
We recommend that you only purchase diamonds that are graded by:
- IGI: The International Gemological Institute are the largest independent diamond grading and appraisal organization in the world. Their standards of excellence have earned them a global reputation for integrity, accuracy and reliability. They are based in Antwerp, Belgium.
- HRD: The “Hoge Raad voor Daimant” or Diamond High Council. The first ISO-certified diamond lab, which issues one of the world’s most respected diamond certificates. Based in Antwerp, Belgium.
- GIA: Internationally, the Institute has distinguished itself as a preeminent source of gemmological knowledge and professionalism. By extension, the GIA Diamond Grading Report and GIA Diamond Dossier are considered premier gemmological credentials. Headquartered in California, USA.
- DCLA: The Diamond Certification Laboratory of Australia (DCLA) is an independent diamond grading laboratory.
- AGS: The AGS Laboratories have provided high-quality diamond grading services since 1996.
Diamond grading reports do not guarantee you will be buying a genuine diamond though.
