Fake Diamonds Explained
How can consumers tell the difference between Diamond and Zircon based imitations?
Imitations often break up white light in a manner different to diamonds, resulting in more yellow-orange, and to a lesser extent blue, colour flashes.
A professional will often pick this one up from a fair distance.
When placed table down on a line, if the line is visible, it is probably an imitation.
Imitations are usually less hard and often show scratches on both surface and the outer rim (girdle).
One can also cover a 'diamond' with the damp of one’s breath. Due to the high thermal conductivity of diamond, the damp will disappear relatively quickly from its surface.
Consumer protection starts with a laboratory Grading Report and ends at the integrity of the retailer.
